I’m guessing you wound up on this obscure corner of the vastness of the internet because you Googled something like “reasons to drink peppermint tea” or maybe something like “what’s the best beverage to have before bed.” It had to be something like that I assume because that’s just how the internet works.

So since I’ve determined you are here to either find out about the benefits of drinking peppermint tea, or to find out about the best beverage to drink before bed, I have some good news for you. Peppermint tea has tons of benefits for you when you drink it. Especially when you drink it before bed. Check out my article below to find out about five great reasons to have peppermint tea before bed.

Peppermint tea has several benefits that you might find pretty relaxing as you attempt to drift off to sleep.

Peppermint Tea Is The Perfect Before Bed Beverage

5 Reasons Why You Might Want To Try a Cup

Reason 1- Peppermint Tea Is Delicious Hot or Cold

I can’t really sit here in good conscience and recommend you something to drink before bed that is going to taste terrible. That’s why I’m so happy to be writing about peppermint tea today. It just makes my job easier when the product I have to write about is a product I already love to use in my own life.

I can tell you that peppermint tea is a great tea option even if you aren’t normally a fan of drinking tea. I mean, obviously, if you hate the taste of peppermint you aren’t going to enjoy it. But my assumption is that most human beings do in fact enjoy the taste of mint. It’s why all of our gum and toothpaste taste the way they do I assume.

So even if you don’t love the taste of tea normally, there is the taste of peppermint right there to improve the taste of the tea and turn out into a familiar flavor. And on top of that, peppermint tea is delicious whether you drink it hot or cold. And it’s also good whether you drink it sweetened or unsweetened.

Peppermint tea is delicious whether you drink it hot when it’s freshly brewed, or wait to have it chilled.

Reason 2 - Peppermint Tea Is Known As An Anti-Stress Tea

Peppermint tea has long been associated with being a stress reliever. Now, there are a wide variety of reasons that the tea helps you relax, but one of the major reasons is that it contains anti-inflammatory properties. And this means that it helps the stress and tensions you hold in your muscles help to relax.

By bringing the inflammation down to a more moderate level, not only are your muscles under less stress, they are also just naturally more comfortable. And if you are looking for a beverage to drink before bed I’m assuming those are exactly the results you are looking for, right? For the beverage to help calm you down and make you comfortable. And peppermint tea does just that for you after you drink a cup.

And this effect isn’t just while you are falling asleep. The anti-inflammatory effects continue while you are sleeping. Helping you get a better night's sleep. When your body has less aches and pains you are able to get a much deeper sleep at night and wake up feeling more refreshed.

Reason 3 - Peppermint Tea Is Caffeine Free

If you are trying to get a better night's sleep the last thing you want to do is introduce any type of stimulant into your diet. And while many varieties of teas contain a stimulant like caffeine, peppermint tea is not one of them. That’s right, your peppermint tea is totally caffeine free. I mean unless you specifically went out of your way to find somebody who produces peppermint that has been caffeinated somewhere during the production process.

So unless you specifically went out of your way to buy a product I’m not even sure they make, then you won’t have to worry about your peppermint tea containing any caffeine and keeping you from falling asleep at night.

Peppermint tea can help you fall asleep easier, and have a more relaxing sleep all night long when you add it as a part of your bed time routine.

Reason 4 - Peppermint Tea Helps Settle Your Stomach Before Bed

Peppermint tea has long been known to be soothing for an upset stomach. Which means that if you are dealing with any sort of gas, bloating, nausea, or indigestion before bed, not only will the peppermint tea help relax the rest of your body, it will also help soothe your stomach too.

And this is huge, honestly. It means even on nights when you had something spicy for dinner, or maybe just a little too much red wine, and your stomach is upsetting you in the evening, you don’t even have to change your nightly routine. You can still just have the cup of peppermint tea you already have before bed because it can soothe your stomach issues when you have them. If you had them every night, it would soothe them every night. But on most nights, your stomach will be fine, and the tea will just be helping you fall asleep and stay asleep.

Reason 5 - Peppermint Tea Is Full of Antioxidants

Peppermint tea, like many other teas, is chocked full of antioxidants. And this is important for one simple reason. If you add a cup of peppermint tea to your nightly routine every night, or even most nights, that means that you are going to be getting an extra dose of antioxidants all the time. And this can have huge health outcomes for you.

See, antioxidants are a special compound that help your body combat what are called “free radicals.” Free radicals have an uneven electron distribution, and because of this they are highly reactive. This causes them to oxidize very easily. Which means that these free radicals float all through your body and every time they come in contact with one of your cell walls, they react.

And this chemical reaction causes damage to your cells. Sure it’s nothing drastic all at once. But over the course of your life hundreds of millions of these reactions will happen and your body’s cells will be damaged hundreds of millions of times because of this. Which really adds up over the course of your life.

The antioxidants in peppermint tea help your body battle these free radicals. Which in turn reduces the number of times the free radicals make contact with your cells. This means your cells aren’t damaged by the oxidation process of the free radical. In other words, the antioxidants in peppermint tea have tons of positive health outcomes because they help prevent cell damage across the entire body.

By drinking peppermint tea before bed on most nights you are helping your body battle a war that it is fighting at the cellular level all the time. And drinking peppermint tea just means that your body is logistically more capable of protecting itself from unwarranted damage all the time. Which means that you are just overall going to be in a healthier body.

Peppermint tea is full of antioxidants that have a whole myriad of positive health effects on your body.

There you go, you have the answer to your questions. You now know five fabulous reasons why peppermint tea makes for the perfect night time beverage. It does everything from help you fall asleep to soothe your stomach. I mean it even helps prevent damage happening to your body at the cellular level. And on top of all of that, it is also one of the most delicious kinds of tea to drink whether you have it hot or cold.

I can tell you personally that it is very convenient to just make up a gallon of peppermint tea, add about a cup full of sugar, and stir it up and stick it in the fridge. Then you can just pour yourself a glass before bed and you don't even have to go through the trouble of brewing the individual cup of tea every night. Nothing could be more convenient to add to your bedtime routine.
